Primary percutaneous closure of a traumatic ventricular septal defect after stab wound to the chest: a case report

چکیده
Abstract Background Traumatic ventricular septal defects are life threatening complications of blunt or stab chest trauma. The standard care is surgical closure secondary percutaneous due to high risk because recent sternotomy. Case summary We present a 22-year-old male with an ice pick related defect. It was successfully closed by primary approach. After 5 months the echo doppler shows no residual shunt, normal pulmonary artery pressure, and biventricular function. Discussion To our knowledge, this one first closures for knife-related VSD. Early diagnosis treatment can prevent heart failure long-term complications. Less necrotic tissue surrounding VSD compared post-infarction allows early secure treatment. Percutaneous feasible effective choice even in patients who had prior sternotomy reject surgery as strategy.

متن کاملPercutaneous closure of a post-traumatic ventricular septal defect with a patent ductus arteriosus occluder
OBJECTIVE Ventricular septal defects resulting from post-traumatic cardiac injury are very rare. Percutaneous closure has emerged as a method for treating this disorder. We wish to report our experience in three patients who underwent percutaneous closure of a post-traumatic ventricular septal defect with a patent ductus arteriosus occluder. METHODS We treated three patients with post-traumat...

MOTS CLÉS Communication interventriculaire ; Occlusion percutanée A 24-year-old man was admitted with stab wounds to the left anterior chest and profuse blood loss. Clinical examination revealed hypotension and tachycardia related to cardiac tamponade. He presented a blade injury above the left clavicle. Through emergency leftthoracic access, the surgeon found a 1-cm injury on the external face...
متن کاملRight-sided Infective Endocarditis with Multiple Large Vegetations in a Case of Ventricular Septal Defect: A Case Report
Herein, we present the case of a 10-year-old child suffering from right-sided infective endocarditis with ventricular septal defect. Echocardiography revealed multiple rare large vegetations on the pulmonary valve extending into pulmonary artery along with a large vegetation over the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve.
متن کاملDevice fracture and severe tricuspid regurgitation after percutaneous closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defect: a case report.
We report a case in which fracture of an Amplatzer perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD) device occurred within 1 month after placement. This was associated with severe tricuspid regurgitation. Surgical removal of the device and repair of the tricuspid valve was performed with reasonable outcome. We propose a hypothesis on how this complication might have occurred and how it could be p...
